I don’t mean to be a sourpuss over here. However, I am certain this relatively short book could have been an article, like many of the non-fiction books these days that fall into that category, and been just as (but likely more) effective.
Looking at the reviews after I finished Donald Miller’s Building a StoryBrand, I think it must be me. The book has 4.27 stars on Goodreads!! Obviously I’m missing something here. That, or I’ve just spent too much time in marketing classes, meetings, and analyzing ads to find a book like this valuable anymore.
Don’t get me wrong - the message, and overall content, is strong. One of the things I liked about Building a StoryBrand is the plethora of real-world and relatable examples included throughout each section. I just think the only thing I walked away learning was that emails are still the #1 way to make sales, even ahead of social (although, I speculate that is a generalization and not true for all business types).
If you are a newbie to marketing and branding, this would be a great place to start.
